As a reminder, this site uses 繁體, 简体, Hànyǔ Pīnyīn, and IPA (e.g. ʂŋʔɤɯ) in a Unicode Font, including Google Earth KMZ downloads. Not all Unicode fonts support these characters, but I primarily use Arial without trouble. If you're having trouble, please visit Alan Wood's page

Here is a table of the sounds found in Beijing Mandarin.

The onsets and rhymes are listed below.

    Onsets:
    p m f
    t n l
    ts tsʰ s
    tʂʰ ʂ ʐ
    tɕʰ ɕ
    k x

    Rhymes:
    ɿ i u y
    ʅ
    ɚ
    ɑ
    ɤ
    o uo
    ai iai uai
    ei uei
    au iau
    ou iou
    an iɛn uɑn yan
    ən in uən yn
    ɑŋ iɑŋ uɑŋ
    əŋ uəŋ
    iuŋ

Click on syllables in the table to hear their sounds (in MP3 format). It may take a second for each sound to load. Links along the left sides refer to the Mandarin romanization tables on this website. The syllables have not been recorded in tones native to any particular dialect, but rather in a flat, high tone, due to the large number of syllables and recordings necessary. For example many syllables with voiced onsets do not occur in a flat, hight tone, and yet other syllables pronounced in this tone may have connotations that sound offensive, as a word of caution.
